Nostalgia: Happy Memories

Time flies and unnoticeable people are getting old. My memories still remain in the nostalgic era. I feel the younger version of me, yes until now, where playing outside home, running around the slump and catching downpour through my hands. It feels like I've done those things yesterday. Fast forward to the current year,2025 , my back hurts, my sight blur and my brain occupies with computer at work. The thought slipped to my mind, yeah, I'm getting old, my parents are getting older and my sisters were not the kids I used to play around the corners of our home anymore. So, when was the exact time I goof around like a child with them anyway. The genuine laugh, telling stories around them, the trips we can't afford and sleep altogether in a small mat. Those are only memories that I will never forget with my family. Then, now I have a different path from them, busier than ever, having my own family and building my own life. I realized, that I have already separated with them quite long ago. In that being told, a lot of things I missed out. In the era where technology overpowered the physical bond of my family. I thought, I can still catch up.

The Call: Catching Up

Last Saturday, I received a call from my elder sister, at first I thought, we only have a normal conversations like we used to. But the convo ended up to our father's health. During pandemic, he had a surgery in appendicitis, but after a couple of years, he diagnosed of having kidney stones, hernia and cyst. We decided to go to the easiest and minor operation first, which is the cyst on his back. All expenses will be covered by his health card, around 20k in pesos. His schedule will be around first week of August. The two (2) other diseases were still under observation and medication. But the cost is not a joke that would be around 300k in total.

My father is a typical dad whom never showed any weakness. He always pretend to be a tough guy even it is health related. But when it comes to money/ expenses/ financial, he always want to let everything slide.

The Call: Purpose

Our conversation did not take that long. But, before we hang up, she told me that our sister, next to her, also got a health problem. In the Philippines, companies requires employees to undergo to an Annual Physical Examination (APE). She have done it, the doctor told her to do the 2D echo. The result? she has Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD).
